Standing Bear

HISTORICAL DRAMA FEATURE FILM

The film portrays the Ponca Nation’s forced relocation Trail of Tears march and the landmark 1879 Standing Bear vs Crook trial that took place in a Omaha, Nebraska court of law - one of the most consequential precedent setting civil rights cases in American history that helped to recognize Natives as “human beings” within the U.S. courts.

Both the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska and the Ponca Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma have issued formal Resolutions of Support. The filmmakers also hold broad Native and governmental support, including the Tyonek Native Corporation, Chiricahua Apache Tribe, Powhatan Confederacy, Athabascan Tribe, Blackfeet Tribe, as well as the State of Nebraska and its Legislature, Governor Jim Pillen, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts, and former State Senators Burke Harr and Colby Coash, who both serve as Executive Producers.
